MFM - A Step by Step Manual for Optimal Muscle Fiber Manipulation

Muscle Fiber Methodology (MFM) came about due to widespread complaints from new and potential clients about painful massages (some clients admitted that they heard massage was painful), and massages that made them relax and de-stress but didn’t help their muscle imbalances. Because of these fears and complaints, I recruited friends who allowed me to create, practice and master the methods of Muscle Fiber Methodology. These methods not only help clients to relax and de-stress, they also help to correct and prevent muscle imbalances without causing pain. Another reason was the necessity to help my fellow massage therapists to prolong their massage career with less pain, by creating muscle fiber manipulating methods that will help the client and also help the therapists, by protecting their thumbs, wrist, back and neck while working.

MFM

Muscle Fiber Methodology (first edition) is primarily a textbook for massage therapists (example - LMT, CMT), who are pursuing training to learn new ways to manipulate mus- cles, to help themselves and their clients. This edition will try to illustrate the basic methods of Muscle Fiber Methodology used to manipulate the back, arms, glutes, legs and up- per body while protecting therapists at work. At the beginning of most chapters, a preview of the muscles to be manipulated will be listed, including their attachments and actions.

Muscle Fiber Methodology (MFM) is a unique combination of methods incorpo- rating muscle fiber manipulations, passive stretches and client-specific exercises. MFM is unique in many ways, for example – over seventy (70) percent of the methods are done sitting on a stool, the use of the hands and thumbs are different, and passive stretches are more relaxing for the clients and therapists. These methods have been practiced since 2007 when I first graduated from massage school in the US. I was lucky to partner with a doctor’s practice (physiatrist) in 2010, where I was exposed to variety of muscle imbalances for seven (7) years. I was able to use MFM by tweaking the basic methods to help my clients recover from their pains and muscle im- balances. Every client recovers differently, even if they are diagnosed with the same muscle imbalances. Because of this, I was able to practice different combinations of my methods to assist clients. These combinations will be discussed and practiced in continuing education (CE) classes to be announced. I will also be producing videos showing how to combine the different methods to help with various muscle imbalances.
